Abstract
1357938 Vortex separators SIEMENS AG 19 Oct 1971 [20 Oct 1970] 48641/71 Heading B2P Apparatus for removing liquid from a gas, e.g. entrained water from steam produced in a nuclear steam generator 1, 2, comprises first and second cylindrical vortex separation chambers 3, 11, which are connected end-to-end in a coaxial manner, and further vortex separation chambers 7, each positioned with its axis offset from the common axis of the chambers 3, 11, each of the chambers 3, 7, 11 being provided with inlet means 6, 9, 13 for admitting liquid/ gas mixture to the respective chamber in such a manner as to impart rotational flow thereto, a gas discharge outlet, e.g. as shown at 8, 14, from the upper region of each chamber, the outlet of the first chamber 3 being connected to the inlet means 13 of the second chamber 11, the inlet means 9 of each chamber 7 being arranged to receive liquid separated out towards the wall of the chamber 3, and the outlet 8 of each chamber 7 being connected to an additional inlet of the chamber 11 which is provided with means 15 for imparting rotational flow, in the same direction as that imparted on mixture admitted to the chamber 11 by its inlet means 13, on liquid/gas mixture delivered into the chamber 11 by way of its additional inlet. The inlet means to the chamber 3 consist of swirl vanes 6 annularly arranged around a flow member 5 having a vortex-stabilizing recess 20. The inlet means to the chamber 11 comprises an opening controlled by an adjustable diaphragm 24 and swirl vanes 13 around a flow member 12. Liquid separated out in chamber 11 enters via an annular gap 17 into a collecting chamber 18 and flows from there via conduits 19 into the lower zone of the vortex chambers 7. The latter are provided with swirl vanes 9 and dishshaped vortex-stabilizing members 21. Liquid flows from the chambers 7 into a collecting chamber 10. The auxiliary inlet to the chamber 11 is shown as comprising swirl vanes 15 but it may alternatively be located in the side wall of the chamber. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the further vortex chambers (7) are mounted with their upper inlets (9) in the upper region of the first separation chamber (3). The wall of each chamber (7) extends through a conical bottom wall of the chamber 3 into a liquid collecting chamber (28) into which an annular liquid discharge duct (18) from the chamber (11) also opens.
