1360124 Developing electrostatic images RICOH K K 10 May 1972 [10 May 1971] 21806/72 Heading G2H Electrostatic toner is added to a toner/carrier particle developer mix in a developing apparatus 25 in response to impacts of a cam-actuated hammer 12, 45 on a flexible-walled replaceable container 2, 47. Each impact raises the airpressure within the container, and causes toner to be forced through openings 3. The container may be elongate, with a row of openings along a lower edge, and be of metal, paper or a plastics material. Preferably the container is mounted coaxially with a cam 6, and rotates with it, receiving a hammer blow in the same orientation at each revolution. Alternatively the container may be fixed, and be struck by a hammer 45 driven by a remote cam 37. The carrier particles in the developing apparatus may be of iron, so that the toner can be applied by a magnetic roller, or may be of glass for fur brush application, or cascading, and the toner may comprise carbon black and a thermoplastic resin.
