Abstract

1363600 Photographic direct positive silver halide emulsions containing boron hydrides E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 22 June 1972 [22 June 1971] 29281/72 Addition to 1308753 Heading G2C A direct-positive, water-permeable colloid silver halide emulsion contains a fogging amount of a boron hydride which is of the series B 6 H 6 -2 to B 12 H 12 -2 or is a polyhedral azaborane, polyhedral thiaborane or polyhedral carborane and a gold compound. The silver halide may be silver chlorobromide or silver iodobromochloride. The boron compound may be (NH 4 ) 2 B 10 H 10 , CsB 9 H 12 S, (CH 3 ) 3 NNB 9 H 12 , (CH 3 ) 4 N(CH 3 ) 2 NNB 9 H 12 , [(C 6 H 5 ) 3 CH 3 P] 2 B 11 H 11 , B 10 H 10 CNH 3 , (CH 3 ) 4 N (CH 3 ) 3 CNHC B 10 H 12 , (CH 3 ) 3 NH B 10 H 12 CH, B 10 H 12 [S(CH 3 ) 2 ] 2 , B 9 H 13 S( 2 CH 5 ) 2 , B 10 H 12 [S(C 2 H 5 ) 2 ] 2 , C 6 H 5 B 11 H 10 S, Na 2 B 12 H 12 .2H 2 o, B 10 C 2 H 12 , C s (CH 3 ) 4 NB 11 H 11 , Cs 2 B 6 H 6 or Cs B 9 H 9 CH. The gold compound may be HAu Cl 4 , K Au Cl 4 , KAuBr 4 or K Au (SCN) 4 . The boron and gold compounds should preferably be added at the beginning, during or before the end of digestion after excess salts have been removed by washing.
