Abstract
1368253 Railway vehicle undercarriages WEGMANN & CO 26 Aug 1971 [27 Aug 1970] 40149/71 Addition to 1368252 Heading B7L A railway vehicle comprises a body 3, Figs. 1 and 3, mounted on a bogie 1 by suspension means including a control linkage consisting of two longitudinal radius rods 4a, 4b each having a spherical joint at each end, one end of each rod being connected to the bogie at 9a, 9b and the other end of each rod being attached to a respective one of two cranks 5a, (5b) which are fast on respective ends of a transverse shaft 7 which is in turn connected to the body 3, said cranks and shaft forming parts of the control linkage which is interrupted by damping couplings 11a, 11b in the rods 4a, 4b. The suspension means are such that on a straight section of track the bogie can rotate about its vertical axis only by overcoming an opposing resistance offered by the damping couplings, without at the same time free movement being prevented between the bogie 1 and the body 3 in the fore and aft, lateral and vertical directions, whereas upon entering a curve the resistance of the damping couplings is overcome. Each coupling 11a, 11b connects two relatively slidable sections of a radius rod 4a, 4b via an hydraulic damper, as shown, or a spring-biased frictional damper, Fig. 2 (not shown). In another form, a single damping coupling 32, Fig. 5, is provided in the transverse shaft and may be a spring-loaded multiple disc friction coupling as in Fig. 10 (not shown). In Fig. 5, the control linkage is inverted relative to Figs. 1 and 3, so that the transverse shaft is connected to the bogie instead of the vehicle body. Longitudinal forces between the bogie and the body may be transmitted through a link rod 17, Figs. 1 and 3, or 37, Fig. 5, in the median plane L, one end of which is pivoted to the vehicle body at 16 or 36 and the other end of which is connected via spring means 18 to the bogie centre. Alternatively, Fig. 9, each shaft section 67a and 67b may be connected via rods 79a and 79b to a linking member 80 pivotable about its central vertical axis and supported on the body 63 by springs 82. Sprung axle guide means, Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), may be arranged between the bogie and roller axle bearing housings and have spring elements comprising rubber chevrons which are approximately at the level of the wheel axle.
