Abstract
1368327 Isocyanate preparation IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 Sept 1972 [14 Oct 1971] 47795/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for the manufacture of two or more isocyanates at least one of which contains at least one aliphatically or cycloaliphatically bound isocyanate group, which comprises phosgenating a mixture of two or more primary amines at least one of which contains an aliphatically or cycloaliphatically bound primary amino group and separating at least one of the isocyanates from the reaction mixture. Specified amines having an aliphatically bound primary amino group are cyclohexylamine, isophorone diamine, n-butylamine, n-octadecylamine, octylamine, hexamethylene diamine and tolylene diamine, whilst other specified amines which can be mixed with the above are mixtures of methylene bridged polyphenyl polyamines produced by condensation of aniline and formaldehyde, toluene diamine and 4,41-diaminodiphenylmethane. Mixtures of two aliphatic amines are also exemplified i.e. octylamine with octadecylamine, or hexamethylenediamine. The separation may be carried out by any known method-distillation, crystallization, differential solubility and it is only essential that one component be distilled out particularly when the other component(s) can be used in an impure form in further reactions.
