Abstract

1371556 Laminated electrical insulating tape SIEMENS AG 15 Aug 1972 [20 Aug 1971] 38097/72 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions B2 C3 and H1] An insulating tape. suitable for use in the production of an insulating sleeve impregnated with a thermoset epoxide impregnating resin mixture comprises a layer 2 of inorganic material of highelectrical breakdown strength and a thin intrinsically flat configuration, said layer being bound on one face to a flexible support 1 by a mixture of a binding agent which is selfhardening at a temperature in excess of ambient temperature and an accelerator capable of accelerating the hardening of a thermosetting epoxide resin mixture, the self-hardening binderaccelerator mixture comprising a cycloaliphatic epoxide resin having an epoxide equivalent weight of not more than 180, the epoxide groups of which resin are formed by oxygen addition to double .bonds forming part of the cycloaliphatic rings thereof; an adduct of an epoxyethyl cyclohexene oxide and a secondary amine in a molar ratio of 1 : 1 in which amine the secondary nitrogen atom is a member of a hydrogenated ring system, and an adduct of an epoxyethyl cyclohexene oxide and an imidazole in a 1 : 1 molar ratio which imidazole is not substituted in the 1-position. The support 1 may be a synthetic fibre fleece, a woven fabric, e.g. of glass fibres or a synthetic plastics foil. The inorganic material layer 2 may comprise mica flakes, mica paper or glass flakes, and is, in the embodiment shown sealed off by a surface layer 3 advantageously consisting of the same material as support layer 1. The secondary amine adduct may be formed from morpholine and 1-epoxyethyl-3,4-epoxy cyclohexene and the imidazole adduct from 1-epoxyethyl-3,4-epoxy cyclohexene and 2-ethyl-imidazole.
