Abstract

1371772 Electric control of movement BALLY Mfg CORP 29 Sept 1971 [29 Sept 1970] 46322/70 Heading G3N [Also in Divisions A6 and G4] An amusement machine, which may be coinfreed, includes a control circuit comprising a rotary probability switch having a plurality of stationary contacts 50A-50G etc. and a travelling contact 50 which is stepped round continuously after the initiation of a machine cycle until one of a plurality of selection switches 41A-41F is operated, whereupon the travelling contact is stopped to connect one of the stationary contacts with a power source 56. The operation of a selection switch also serves to connect one stationary contact 45A-45F, 46A-46F in each angularly spaced set of contacts (I, II for example) in the contact field of a search switch to the other side of the power source. The travelling contactor of the search switch, which has portions 55A-55F connected to the stationary contacts 50A-50F of the probability switch, is then stepped round until it finds a live search contact in a suitable position to complete a circuit with the live probability contact, and is then stopped. On setting up of the complete search circuit pulse switches P-25 to P-17 each with a different pulse rate, are operated to supply pulses via the contacts in the particular set of search contacts at which the travelling contactor of the search switch has stopped, to respective clutch coils 20A-20F each associated with a respective pawl 19 that controls the movement of a racing figure 10. Each figure is attached to a drive chain 13 trained over a sprocket 14 mounted freely on a common motor driven shaft 15 (see also Fig.2 not shown), and rotated by a slip clutch (16) when the pawl 19 is withdrawn from blocking engagement with a control disc 18. The figure associated with the clutch coil that is connected to the pulsing switch with the greatest pulse rate i.e. P-25 is therefore moved faster than the other figures and is the first to operate a finish switch 100A-100F. The winning figure is thus determined firstly by the position in which the probability switch contactor stops and secondly by the way that the clutch coils and selection switches are connected to the sets of stationary search contacts. The sequence of operation of the machine is controlled by a control motor 35 and control cam switches I to VII. The circuit of Fig.3, is shown in more detail in Fig.5 (not shown). An award pay-out circuit, Fig.4 (not shown), determines whether the figures selected by operation of a selection switch is the winner of a race and pays out a prize or otherwise registers an award appropriately. Prizes may also be payed for second and third places in the race.
