Abstract
1374699 Photo-electric apparatus SOC ANON AUTOMOBILES CITROEN 1 March 1972 [2 March 1971] 9454/72 Heading G1A Photo-electric apparatus is arranged to produce an electrical signal when two independent parameters attain a predetermined relationship. The apparatus of Fig. 1 indicates when two angular velocities reach equality and can be adpated to indicate other relationships. The respective angular velocities of two rotating shafts are converted by devices C 1 , C 2 (comprising magnetic drums 5 within spring biased metallic cups 6) into angles A 1 , A 2 of rotation of shafts la, 2a. Mounted on shaft 2a, to rotate therewith, is an arm 8a having a cylindrical sector plate 9a carrying a photo-cell, photo-diode or photoresistor 4a. The other shaft 1 a carries a similar arm 13 with a screen 1la having an aperture 12a. Lamp 3a is mounted on the axis of shafts la, 2a. The arrangement is such that whatever the angular position of photo-cells 4a, when equality between A 1 and A 2 is reached, the aperture 12a allows light to reach the photo-cell to provide an output signal. By arranging a plurality of detectors at different angular positions on the plate 9a, other predetermined relationships between the angles A 1 , and A 2 and thus the velocities of original shafts, may be indicated. A typical application is in the determination of the correct time for coupling of a synchronous motor to a system. Another application envisaged is one in which the two parameters are the speed of rotation of an internal combustion engine and the angle of opening of the throttle, respectively.
