Abstract

1375056 Sliding clasp fasteners OPTIHOLDING AG 4 Aug 1972 [11 Aug 1971] 36517/72 Heading E2S A core 5 is inserted into a preformed row of fastener elements by feeding the row of elements through and past a bending point 7 at which it is fanned out in the region of the connecting portions between at least two adjacent elements, the core having been inserted into an interlocking eye in an element that has already been fed past the bending point, being inserted between the fanned-out elements at the bending point by a relative planetary movement between the row and the core, the row being advanced by one element for each 360 degrees of planetary movement. As shown, the row of elements is fed through a stationary mandrel 8 and through a mechanism 10, 16, 17 journalled on the mandrel and driven through a belt 14 by a motor to a head 9 of the mandrel through which is fed the core 5 from a spool 11, the arrangement being such that the row of elements is rotated about the core and is advanced with the core by rollers 15. The passage of the row through the mandrel is controlled by ring gears 19 and a spreader 20 Fig. 7. In another arrangement, Fig. 8 (not shown) the row of elements is fed through the head 9 and the core is fed over the conical surface thereof to the bend point 7.
