Abstract
1375267 Protecting inverters EMERSON ELECTRIC CO 27 April 1972 [18 June 1971] 19635/72 Heading H2F An inverter (not shown) feeding output lines 14a, 14b having at least one series resonant filter 16a, 17a in its path to the load is protected by a transformer 45 across one of the filter components 16a or 17a and, in the event of overload, a static switch 43 is fired which reduces the impedance across transformer 45. As described, a signal is fed on line 23 in the event of fuse failure, over current or other fault which triggers thyristor 97 so as to turn on thyristors 76 … 78 of the static switch 43 so as to connect a common resistor 85 (0À055 ohm, 200 W) across the secondaries of transformer 45 and thus damp the voltage in the resonant filter. A relay 107 having a time delay dash-pot may be included to open circuit the load such as a threephase motor. In the event of a partial overload, insufficient to operate the fuse, diodes 73 … 75 become conductive, damping the resonant filter by feeding current back to D.C. supply 12a, 12b. In Fig. 5 (not shown) three inverters having individual resonant filters and individual protective circuits are connected in parallel to the load.
