Abstract
1375584 Composite web formers: non- woven fabrics JOHNSON & JOHNSON 21 Jan 1972 [21 Jan 1971 (2)] 3059/72 Headings D1F D1N a D1R A web forming apparatus has two separate fibre supplies 62, 162, each with a respective lickerin 92, 176 feeding fibre to a mixing zone 25 for subsequent collection as a composite web W. An air supply 140 is injected centrally into the mixing zone 25 to control the amount of intermixing of the fibres. As shown the fibres are supplied as a wood pulp board 62 and a rayon bat 162 fed by respective feed rolls 64 and 164 each of which is mounted adjustably with respect to a stationary anvil which is adjustable relative to the respective lickerin; this latter may also be adjustable to set its position relative to its opposite number. The web W is collected on a foraminous drum 28, with an internal suction zone, and is delivered from the apparatus on a conveyor 29. The vertical position of the drum 28 may be adjustable relative to the lickerins and figures 4 to 12 (not shown) reveal suitable arrangements of flaps and/or rollers for sealing the web forming zone and suitable arrangements of the suction device within the drum. The lickerins are clothed with saw-tooth wire and suitable tooth configurations and operating speeds are given. The Specification also describes and claims an apparatus and reveals a method which are the subject of Specification 1,375,585. The abridgment of this Specification lists the suitable fibres for use in the apparatus and methods of both Specification together with suitable subsequent bonding processes.
