Abstract

1377471 Leather treatment CHEMISCHE FABRIK STOCKHAUSEN & CIE 29 March 1973 [29 March 1972] 15176/73 Heading C6C Leather or another skin is greased or dubbed by contacting the leather or other skin with a treating composition comprising a pulverulent product which has been obtained by drying an aqueous solution, emulsion or dispersion which comprises a mixture of at least one substance of non-solid consistency e.g. a water-soluble, emulsifiable or dispersible fat, oil or wax, together with a carrier composition having the dry weight analysis of: (a) from 0.1 to 35% of inorganic and/or organic salts, (b) from 0.1 to 90% of albumin, an albumin derivative or a mixture thereof, and (c) from 0.1 to 70% of a mono-, oligo- or polysaccharide, a derivative thereof or a mixture thereof. The pulverulent product is preferably used in aqueous solution, emulsion or dispersion. Component (a) may be a chloride, sulphate, carbonate or phosphate of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, a chloride or sulphate of aluminium, chromium or zirconium, or an alkali metal or alkali earth metal salt of formic, acetic, glycolic, lactic, thioglycolic, citric or phthalic acid. Component (b) may be milk albumin or a hydrolysate of water-insoluble albuminous substances of plant or animal origin e.g. casein, collagen or leguminous albumins; and component (c) may be glucose, mannose, fructose, galactose, glucosamine, saccharose, lactose or starch. The composition may also contain one or more fillers, anti-caking agents, builders, or additives customarily used in leather or skin treatment such as a dye, tanning agent, disinfectant, preservative, wetting agent or an emulsifier.
