Abstract
1383584 Tube reactor with internal catalytic lining BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA-PABRIK AG 18 April 1972 [19 April 1971] 17769/ 72 Heading B1F [Also in Division C2[ A tube reactor used in the manufacture of carboxylic acids or their anhydrides by oxidation with O 2 of aromatic or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbons in the presence of a V 2 O 5 -containing fixed-bed catalyst has at least 50% of the total area of the internal surface of the tube(s) coated with a catalytic composition containing TiO 2 and/or ZrO 2 in a thickness of 0.01 to 0.5 mm. The internal coating optionally comprises up to 50% by weight (based on the mixture) of V 2 O 5 . In preferred embodiments part or all of the internal surface(s) are roughened and/or contoured, 1/3 to 1/2 of the total length of the tube(s) as measured from the gas inlet end is not provided with said coating on its internal surface and the tube reactor of length 1.5-2.0 metres is connected at its outlet to a shaft furnace.
