Abstract
1383831 Yarn piecing apparatus MAREMONT CORP 8 Feb 1972 [5 March 1971] 5828/72 Heading D1D An automatic yarn ‘piecing apparatus includes a yarn joining assembly having a frame movable on a pivoted support arm towards and away from a textile drafting means and carrying a yarn joining roller, a yarn clamp, a yarn cutter and a yarn tension control arm. As shown, in a ring spinning machine, a joining assembly 58, Fig. 4, comprises a frame 82 on a pivoted support arm 60, the frame 82 carrying yarn joining roller 84 biased forwardly on slide rod 112 by spring arm 90″, clamp jaws 86, 88, cutter 94 and tension control arm 98. Yarn joining commences when the piecing apparatus extends a yarn (not shown) from a winding ‘bobbin to intersect the path of the assembly, which is then pivoted about shaft 62 so that the extended yarn is laid over roller 84, jaw 88 and arm 98 lying between the roller and jaw. During further assembly movement, follower 150 contacts fixed cam 156 to rotate lever 104, yoke 142 and shaft 134 and thus move jaw 86 downwardly to clamp the yarn against jaw 88 and to cut off excess yarn on cutter 94. Follower 148 is also moved by cam 156 to raise arm 98 and thereby the clamped yarn. The jaws are maintained clamped by a detent on an arm supporting jaw 86, a detent notch receiving the upper end of spring arm 90″. As assembly 58 moves beyond cam 156 towards drafting rollers 14, Fig. 5, the clamped yarn is twisted by rotation of the bobbin and thereby tensioned, which lowers arm 98 against spring bias. The abutment of roller 84 with one of drafting rollers 14 causes the roller 84 to move rearward with rod 112 in frame 82 against the bias of spring arm 90″, thus deflecting the arm out of engagement with the detent to allow jaw 86 to pivot upwards under spring bias to release the yarn. The released twisting yarn then interconnects with the broken yarn end projecting from rollers 14. To ensure that the clamped yarn is aligned with the broken yarn end, arm 60 supporting frame 82 is splined on shaft 62 and the arm and frame are guided axially along the shaft by cam means.
