Abstract

1389409 Mechanical switches LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 1 June 1972 [6 Aug 1971] 37033/71 Heading H1N A switch actuating mechanism for a selfcancelling direction indicator switch comprises a pivoted lever biased to a central position by a spring 17 having arms 17a, 17b. If the lever is turned in one direction, say anticlockwise, spring arm 17a runs up ramp 24 on the body and over detent shoulder 24a, which holds the lever in position. Simultaneously sliding member 27 is allowed to slide down slot 26 under the influence of springs 28 towards steering column 34 and its striker 35. Rotation of column 34 anticlockwise moves striker 35 so that member 27 can move to the full extent of slot 26. If column 34 is then rotated clockwise to its initial central position, striker 35 rotates pivoted member 27 anticlockwise so that cam surface 29 on member 27 lifts spring arm 17a from detent 24a and the lever is returned to its central position by spring 17. Simultaneously member 27 is urged by portion 32, Fig. 3 (not shown) of the lever back up slot 26 clear of engagement by striker 35. Similarly if the lever is turned clockwise, spring arm 17b runs up ramp 25 and over detent 25a where it is held until cancelled by striker 35 rotating member 27 clockwise so that cam surface 30 on member 27 lifts spring arm 17b clear of detent 25a. Detent shoulders 24a; 25a are sloped so as to retain arms 17a, 17b but to cause the arms to ride up the shoulders if the lever is manually returned to a central position.
