Abstract

1389520 Sliding box lids INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 24 May 1973 [24 May 1972] 24817/73 Heading B8P [Also in Divisions H3 and H4] In a cabinet 1, Fig. 1, comprising a displaceably arranged plastics cover-plate 6 with edge portions 15, Figs. 2 and 3, at least partly slidingly supported in channels 7 of the cabinet, either one edge portion 15 or channel wall has a groove 16, extending at least partly therealong, the edge portion 15 or channel wall has a plurality of tongues 21 provided by means of transverse slots and the edge portion 15 has a width equal to or wider than that of the associated channel so as to substantially prevent rattling of the cover-plate. As shown a cabinet 1 of an electrical communication equipment, such as a portable radio has cover-plate 6 which may be slid to the left to enable access to an opening 2 provided with connecting facilities 3 and button controls 4. The cover-plate 6 may be inserted or removed via a gap 13. The tongues 21 of the cover-plate 6 resiliently press against the wall of the channel 7 so as to have a damping effect on the relative movements between the cabinet and the cover-plate due to vibrations acting on the cabinet or oscillations of the loud-speaker diaphragm which are transferred to the cabinet so as to prevent the cover-plate 6 from rattling. Preferably the groove wall 19 projects over the surface 17 on the cover-plate side containing the tongues 21. Resiliency of the edge of the groove wall 19 is improved by wedge-shape design of the groove 16. More than one cover-plate 6 may be provided and the stop edge 12 of the cabinet may be omitted so that the plate 6 may extend to the edge of the cabinet. In a modification it would be possible to groove and slot one of the walls of each channel 7 instead to produce the same anti-rattling effect and this could be done in the same way as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 such as to an inside wall so that the transverse slots similar to 20 do not show from the outside. The cabinet may be used for radio and television receivers or tape recorders. The Specification refers to such cabinets as having the cover-plates on the bottom and/or rearside where they serve to close a battery compartment, a compartment for keeping a power cable or a microphone or a remote control device or for connecting facilities such as an extension speaker or control buttons.
