Abstract
1395690 Valves DYNAIR Ltd 18 Dec 1973 58601/73 Heading F2V A thermally actuated valve for controlling the supply of compressed air to a pneumatically operated clutch of a vehicle engine cooling fan, comprises an inlet port 36, an outlet port 35, a valve element 40 movable by a thermal actuator 27 and a pair of seals 50, 52. In use, compressed air supplied to port 36 forces the element 40 rightwardly against the action of spring 46 to a position where it disengages from the seal 50, thereby allowing the air to flow through clearance 51 to outlet port 35. Subsequent temperature rise in the engine coolant causes wax-filled actuator 27 to force the element 40 leftwards to re-engage the seal 50 and disengage the seal 52, whereby the outlet port 35 is instead communicated with a relief port 37. If the inlet pressure should fail the element 40 is forced leftwards by spring 46 independently of the actuator 27.
