1398049 Zero adjustment of digital weighing machines W KRAUT [trading as BIZERBAWERKE WILHELM KRAUT K G] 16 July 1973 [26 July 1972] 33689/73 Headings G1N and G1W In a digital weighing machine whose indicator shows e.g. 1 gram units so that zero adjustment is normally accurate to ¢ gram, the balance beam is loaded with an ancillary weight of ¢ gram and the taring adjusted so that the indicated weight is indeterminately 0 or 1 gram. When the ancillary weight is removed, the zero has been accurately adjusted. As shown, a balance beam 6 is loaded by a spring 8 whose tension is adjusted by rotation of a hollow screw 13 producing lateral displacement of a nut 12, thereby adjusting the zero of the machine By pushing on a knob 24 the beam 6 is relieved of an ancillary weight 17 of ¢ gram. The knob 24 engages with the screw 13 and both are rotated to adjust the indicated weight to the indeterminate 0 or -1 gram value. The knob is then released to be restored by a spring 23 to its normal position, with the weight 17 resting on a shoulder 16 and adding to the load on the beam 6. The zero of the machine has now been accurately adjusted. The ancillary weight may alternatively be added to the balance beam for zero adjustment, or may be replaced by an equivalent magnetic force.
