Abstract
1398386 Washing bottles GEO J MEYER Ltd 13 Sept 1972 [16 Sept 1971] 43335/71 Heading B8T In a bottle washing machine dirty, labelcarrying bottles are loaded into bottle pockets 1 arranged in rows between carrying chains 2 of a conveyer. The bottles enter a first soaking tank A at point E with only a small clearance between the pocket ends 1A and a solid guide 3. On leaving tank A at point H, the bottles are inverted to drain liquid back into tank A before they enter a second soaking tank B at point J, with a label-removing zone starting at point K where guide 4 is replaced by a grid 7 made from bars (8), Fig. 6 (not shown). The necks of the bottles are clustered to permit cleaning liquid from submerged nozzles 6 to be forced into the pocket neck openings to remove the labels, which are ejected through grid 7, bars 8 retaining the bottles in the pockets. The liquid and entrained labels passing through grid 7 are collected in a settling area bounded by a guard 4, 5 and points J and K, where jets of liquid from transverse nozzles 9 sweep labels towards suction pipe 10 connected via pump (12), Fig. 2 (not shown), to label separators 11. On leaving tank B the bottles pass over upwardly directed nozzles which clean the interiors prior to entering a third tank C where there is a further labelremoving section and associated separate label separator 11 before final rinsing and drying. Separators 11 receive contaminated liquid from either tank B or tank C via pipes 30, Fig. 5A, connected to pipes 10 of the cleaning tanks. The liquid enters internally of a cylindrical rotatable sieve drum 31 below the liquid level of tank 35 in area AA. Suction pipe 38 connects area BB of tank 35 to either tank B or tank C via pump (12) so that on rotation of drum 31, the labels are removed from the liquid, pressed between rolls 39, 40 and discharged via shoot 41. A modification shows input 30 to be in area BB with output 38 in area AA, with concomitant alterations to rolls and discharge shoots.
