Abstract

1402308 Tyres Y TSURUTA 21 Aug 1972 [22 Nov 1971] 38860/72 Heading B7C A tyre, e.g. for aircraft, has a plurality of metal spikes projecting out of its exterior surface, the spikes being connected to one or more metal bonds embedded in the tyre. In use the spikes and the band or bands serve to dissipate heat developed in the tyre, e.g. on braking, to prevent break-up of the tyre. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the spikes 2 are located in an upper sidewall region of the tyre and are carried by circumferentially disposed bands 4 composed of alternate metal plate 5 and net 6 portions. The tyre shown in Fig. 3 has spikes 9 projecting out of a circumferential groove in its tread, the spikes 9 being mounted on radially extending bands 12 which also carry metal projections 10 located in the tread and sidewalls of the tyre. The bands 12 may be connected to heat-radiating ribs 14 on the rim 13 of a wheel mounting the tyre. The metal bands and the embedded parts of the spikes (and other projections if provided) may be covered with thermally insulating material, e.g. asbestos or glass fibre.
