Abstract

1402492 Steel compositions ARMCO STEEL CORP 9 May 1973 [19 May 1972] 22141/73 Heading C7A A low-carbon, non-ageing steel possessing high ductility, high tensile to yield strength ratios and no yield point elongation consists by weight of:- residual amounts of phosphorus and silicon the balance iron and incidental impurities. The amount of titanium, apart from that present as titanium oxide, should not exceed (4x%C+3.43x%N); the amount of zirconium apart from that present as zirconium oxide or sulphide should not exceed (7.6x%C+6.51x%N) to prevent precipitationhardening effects while the niobium content should include more than 0.025% in uncombined form and not more than 0.004% carbon combined with niobium. The steels should be vacuum degassed before casting: they are then hot-rolled e.g. finishing at 816-927 C, coiled, cold-rolled and batch annealed at 705 to 788C or continuously at up to 900C Metallic or non-metallic coatings can be applied after annealing, e.g. by hot dipping. The absence of yield point elongation is a property of both the hot-rolled or the coldrolled and annealer steels.
