Abstract

1414856 Dosage meters COMMISSARIAT A L’ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 12 July 1973 [13 July 1972] 33243/73 Heading H5R An alpha-particle dosage meter comprises means such as a suction fan 3 driven by a motor 4 for sampling air around a circuit 2 which includes a filter 5 for trapping alpha-emitting aerosols, two collimators 18, 19 at the upper ends of which are detectors 8 for separately detecting the alpha emissions of radium A and radium C1 respectively. The separate detections are made by means of different thickness screens 9, 10 disposed in front of the detectors 8 which can be cellulose nitrate. The screens 9, 10 can be of polycarbonate respectively 25 and 6 microns thick and they -can be at either end of the collimators. The screen 10 slows down the 6 Mev. emissions of RaA to about 3 Mev. resulting in tracks in the detector whereas the 7À68 Mev emissions of RaC1 are retarded to 5-3 Mev. and are not detected. Screen 9 stops the RaA -alpha particles and retards those from RaC1 to 3 Mev. and consequently they are detected.
