Abstract

1420788 Radioactive preparations SOLCO BASEL AG 7 May 1973 [8 May 1972 8 Feb 1973] 21639/73 Heading G6R An injectable preparation of Tc99m or In113m of high specific activity per unit volume is made by mixing a sparingly soluble metal hydroxide with a low activity solution of the radionuclide, separating the metal hydroxide with the radionuclide concentrated therein, and dissolving the metal hydroxide in a small volume of an aqueous solution of a compound which will form a chelate with the metal. The metal hydroxide may be ready-formed or may be precipitated in the low activity solution by adding a solution of a metal compound followed by an alkali. Hydroxides of Fe(II), Fe(III), Ca, Mg and Al are prepared, but hydroxides of Cr(III), Yb(III) and Co(III) are also referred to. The chelating agent may be ascorbic, citric, or lactic acid, or alternatively, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid, together with hydrochloric and/or acetic acid. Further examples of suitable chelating agents are given. A solution of a citrate, citrate/phosphate, or tris-(hydroxymethyl) aminomethane may be added as a buffer solution to the separated metal hydroxide either before or together with the chelateforming solution.
