Abstract
1421354 Bearings NEWELL DUNFORD ENG Ltd 7 Dec 1973 [18 Dec 1972] 56886/73 Heading F2A A journal bearing for supporting a horizontal journal 10 comprises a stationary support structure 12, a pair of rocker members 17a, 17b pivotally connected to the support structure 12 for pivotal movement about axes A, B extending parallel to the journal axis O, said pivotal axes being symmetrically disposed on opposite sides of a vertical plane OX, a pair of unwound mountings 21 provided on each rocker member 17a, 17b and disposed on opposite sides of planes OA, OB and a pair of bearing shoes 20 tiltably mounted on each rocker member 17a, 17b by the universal mountings 21, each bearing shoe 20 providing a bearing surface conforming to the journal surface. Bearing plates 24 may be adjustable by shims 29, Fig. 2 (not shown) or a screw adjuster 31, Fig. 3 (not shown). An hydraulic jack 32, Fig. 4 (not shown) or a screw jack 35, Fig. 5 (not shown) may be used to facilitate shoe changing.
