Abstract

1444550 Antiskid braking systems DUNLOP Ltd 15 Nov 1973 [25 Nov 1972] 54573/72 Heading F2F An antiskid brake control system for a vehicle such as an aircraft comprises separate control circuits for each braked wheel of a pair each such circuit including a wheel speed sensor 1 or la and being arranged to control the wheel braking pressure in accordance with preset criteria to alleviate skidding, each circuit also including an excess skid control circuit 9 having a means of recording the speed of the wheel under its control when the brake is first applied and progressively reducing this recorded speed signal in a predetermined manner, each circuit being so arranged that the brake cannot be reapplied until the actual speed signal from the wheel has risen to the level of the progressively reducing signal or the latter has reached zero, the circuits being intercoupled so that if during anti-skid operation the actual speed signal from a wheel sensor fails to rise to the level of the associated reducing speed signal before this reaches zero the control of the braking of that wheel is transferred to the other paired circuit. Each sensor 1, 1a produces an A.C. output which is fed to a square wave amplifier 2 and hence to a pulse generator 3 producing pulses of constant form and width. The output passes to a frequency to voltage converter 4 and is then differentiated in amplifier 5 to give a signal proportional to deceleration which is fed to a driver circuit 6 controlling a solenoid-operated brake pressure control valve 7. In order to preserve the low speed manoeuvrability of the aircraft the anti-skid control circuits are rendered inoperable below a preset minimum ground speed. The output of square wave amplifier 2, 2a is connected to a low speed detector 10 or 10a and a low speed comparator 11 or 11a arranged in series. Comparator 11 or 11a and excess skid control circuit 9 or 9a are coupled to a change-over control unit 12 or 12a the arrangement being that if both low speed comparators give an output indicating a speed below the preset minimum both control circuits are rendered inoperative. If only one comparator shows such a low speed the change-over control unit switches control to the other circuit. A test circuit includes a switch 14, run-down oscillator 15, indicator driver 16 and indicator light 18.
