Abstract

1447197 Placing slot insulators in magnetic cores INDUSTRA PRODUCTS Inc 24 Jan 1975 [28 Feb 1974] 3210/75 Heading B3A A machine for placing insulating wedges into slots of a magnetic core by linearly moving wedge push rods 29 into a wedge containing magazine to force wedges axially from the magazine into the core slots includes, for inserting wedges of varying length, means for reciprocating the push rods in the direction of wedge insertion and variable length coupling means interconnecting the push rods with the reciprocating means to vary the distance that certain push rods force corresponding wedges to allow for wedges of varying lengths. The push rods 29 are mounted on a carriage 25 which is reciprocated by rotation of threaded rods 27 and the rods force individual wedges between guides 31 into the stator slots. The carriage also forces a stripper through fingers 11 in which are located wound coils. The distance the rods 29 are moved is varied by means of air cylinders 33, 33a and depends upon the length of the wedges to be inserted. The cylinders move an upstanding pin 35, which is located in a slot 45 in a plate 47, so as to rotate the plate. Pins 51, 53 on the plate locate in slots in plates 55, 59 in certain locations of the plate 47. In one limiting position of the plate 47, four pins 51 bear on the plate 59 and four pins 53 bear on the plate 55 and all push rods, e.g. exemplary rods 57, 61, will move the full travel of the carriage 25. In an intermediate position of the plate 47, the pins 51 are in alignment with slots in the plate 59 and as pins 53 raise the plate 55 the plate 59 will not move until the carriage contacts it and hence the rods 57 will travel a shorter distance than the rods 61. In the other limiting position of the plate 47 the pins 53 enter holes in the plate 55, so that both plates 55, 59 and their associated push rods travel a shorter distance.
