Abstract

1448345 Electropolishing inner Nb surfaces of hollow bodies SIEMENS AG 8 March 1974 [15 March 1973] 10580/74 Addition to 1411392 Heading C7B Hollow bodies having an inner niobium surface are electro-polished using the process of the parent Specification 1411392 modified in that the hollow body is slowly rotated during the electrolytic oxidation step (this resulting in a portion of oxidized surface rising out of the electrolyte); and such that when the hollow body is rotated to a further position for repetition of the polishing sequence subsequent to dissolution of the oxide layer on that part of the surface still immersed in the electrolyte, no more than 3% of the inner surface now immersed has a coating of undissolved oxide. During the dissolution step the electrolyte level may be raised to re-immerse in the electrolyte the portion of the surface which emerged due to rotation of the body, whereby all oxide formed during the previous electrolytic oxidizing step is dissolved.
