Abstract
1457209 Chipboard G A SERLACHIUS OY 21 Aug 1974 [21 Aug 1973] 36820/74 Heading C3N A method for the manufacture of wood materials with urea as a bonding agent is characterized in that the urea is pre-reacted in the presence of a catalyst, the catalyst being a water-soluble salt of a non-precious metal, or a water soluble mono- or disaccharide or an amine or a mixture of these, whereafter the prereacted mixture is sprayed on to the raw wood material and the material pressed into boards at 180-250 C. The term «pre-reacted» is a term applied to urea which has undergone partial decomposition and internal reactions between the products thereof, to the point where liberation of ammonia commences. The «non-precious metal» is defined as those elements in the electrochemical series which have a negative electrode potential against the H-electrode and a suitable salt of such a metal is MgCl 2 or ZnCl 2 . A sulphite waste liquor containing water soluble mono- or disaccharide may be used as the catalyst whilst suitable amines that may be used are triethylene diamine, triethylamine tetramethylene diamine, hexamethylene diamine and hexamethylene tetramine.
