Abstract
1460135 Checkout systems N C R CORP 21 April 1975 [8 May 1974] 16354/75 Heading A4T [Also in Division B8] A checkout counter system comprises a checking counter unit 20 for receiving purchases, a bagging unit 40, which is pivotably mounted and provided with wheels or rollers 42 for movement between a first position adjacent the counter unit 20, Fig. 1, and a second position, Fig. 2, spaced therefrom, and a bridging unit 56 for supporting purchases being passed between the units 20, 40 in the second position of the bagging unit 40. In the first position, e.g. during slack periods, an operator at a stand 80 for a cash register, &c., has access to bags 78 which are held against the edge of a packing surface 43 by a spring-loaded door member 76. In the second position, e.g. when a second operative is provided for packing, the unit 40 is swung through 90 degrees, Fig. 2. The unit 56, which is pivotable on a shaft 55 and supported by arms 60 slidable in channels 62 and counterbalanced by springs 63, is pulled upwardly, and a support block 65 engages over a resiliently mounted flange member 66, biased into supporting position by a spring 70. To release the bridging unit 56 a handle (75), Fig. 4 (not shown), is actuated to move a member 73 which depresses the flange member 66 against the spring 70.
