Abstract
1462485 Phenoplast resin foams derived from expandable resoles SAINT-GOBAIN INDUSTRIES 20 Feb 1974 [5 March 1974] 7777/74 Headings C3C and C3R [Also in Division B2E] Chemically neutral phenoplast resin foams are made by coating or mixing uniformly a blowing agent on to or with a solid resole-type chemically neutral phenoplast resin in particulate form, which has been made by condensing 1-3À1 moles of formaldehyde with 1 mole of phenol, and then causing the expandable particles to expand and set by the action of heat alone. In the examples spheroidal particles of resin were made by condensing phenol and formaldehyde in water in the presence of hydrazine hydrate, treating the mixture with ammonia and then suspension stabilizers and finally washing and drying the beads. The bead resin was then either mixed or coated with a blowing agent, e.g. namyl alcohol, azo-1,1
