1462721 Removing NO x and SO 2 from gases EBARA MFG CO Ltd 10 Jan 1974 [11 Jan 1973 19 Jan 1973 20 Jan 1973 3 March 1973 (3) 15 Aug 1973 (2)] 01177/74 Heading C1A SO 2 and NO x are removed from effluent gases by regulating NO x : SO 2 ratio to 0À1-3À0 : 1, irradiating the gas mixture with ionizing or ultra-violet radiation to convert NO x and SO 2 to mist and/or solid particles and passing the gases through a mist and dust collector. The NO x : SO 2 ratio may be regulated by controlling combustion from which effluent gases emanate, adding NO x and/or SO 2 from an external source or treating the gas prior to irradiation to partially remove NO x or SO2 present. N 2 and one or more of O 2 , O 3 or air may be added to effluent gases with advantage. Preferably a portion of the gases leaving the mist collector are recycled to the irradiation chamber. Contaminated air in the irradiation chamber may be added to the effluent gases prior to irradiation. Irradiation dose rate may be 10
