Abstract
1467238 Floating storage tank BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 13 March 1974 [21 March 1973] 13544/73 Heading B7S A marine structure comprises an oil storage tank 1 having conduits 13 extending lengthwise through it to accommodate oil risers 21. Oil admitted to the tank through oil gas separator 24 and line 25 and water is discharged from it through valves 7, lines 22 and oily water separator 23. Oil is discharged from the tank by pump 27 and line 35 and water is admitted through valves 7. The tank has an inner wall 2 and outer wall 3 defining a buoyancy chamber 5 to which water is admitted, or discharged from, by valves 6. Air is pumped into the buoyancy chamber by pump 37 via line 38 and is released from it by valves 40. The dimensions of the buoyancy chamber are such that when the tank is wholly submerged its buoyancy is controlled at about neutral by adjusting the relative amounts of air and water in the buoyancy chamber. Tubular projections 4 extend above the tank to receive mooring cable 30 from a tanker.
