Abstract

1479466 Colour television tubes PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 Sept 1974 [14 Sept 1973] 39670/74 Heading H1D In a colour television tube with three guns 23, 25, 27 arranged horizontally and seen in side view 5, and with vertically striped shadow mask 7 and phosphor screen 9, correction of colour purity by a vertical magnetic field is provided, in addition to ring pairs 15, 17 with respective four and six pole permanent magnetization for convergence correction, by permanently diametrically magnetized ring pair 19 adjustable angularly but constrained by mechanism to move oppositely through equal angles, the resultant field remaining vertical though variable in magnitude. A second pair of rings 21 provides a horizontal field adjustable in magnitude to correct unwanted vertical deflection of the three beams. One possible mechanism linking the rings of pair 19 comprises fixed sleeve 29 round the tube neck 1, carrying all the rings, with holder 31 slid over the sleeve and locked to it by lug 35 in recess 33. Annular ridge 37, with pinion 41 rotating within a gap in the ridge, carries magnetized rings 43 and 47 within and without the ridge, toothed to engage pinion 41 to force the rings to rotate through equal and opposite angles. The two North poles N are set to coincide on the normal to the gun plane. The second pair of rings 21 are mounted in similar manner with their North poles set to coincide on the gun plane.
