Abstract

1479841 Facsimile scanner WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 24 Feb 1975 [25 Feb 1974] 7718/75 Heading H4F In a fascimile scanner successive lines of an original 11, Fig. 1, are imaged on to a 1500 element charge coupled image pick-up device (CCD) 17 by a lens 15. The optical path is folded by mirrors 18a-18d, Fig. 3. Scan lines are illuminated by a U-shaped fluorescent lamp 14 mounted together with lens 15, mirrors 18a- 18d and CCD 17 on a carriage 13 which traverses the underside of a transparent document support plate in a direction perpendicular to that of the scanned lines. Details of circuitry and the control system are described with reference to Figs. 2 and 4 (not shown). CCD is actuated 2000 times in one pass effectively providing a 2000 line frame having three million picture elements.
