Abstract

1501279 Counting apparatus TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO Ltd 18 Nov 1975 [18 Nov 1974] 47508/75 Headings G4A and G4D A counting apparatus of the kind comprising a shift register 1-6, built from IGFET’s (Fig. 2, not shown), and having feedback to the first stage from the last and one other stage causing it to pass through a long sequence of distinguishable states is provided with means for presetting the individual stages of the register in predetermined states. In Fig. 1 the outputs of the first and last stages are fed back to the input of the first via an exclusive-OR gate 9. An AND-gate 8 is included in the path from the last stage. If the other input a of the AND-gate 8 is held at 1 level the shift register will pass through the maximum of 2n-1 different states. If however the input a is derived by an AND-gate 10 from selected true and inverted outputs of the register stages then a selected number of those is skipped; with the connections shown in Fig. 1 there are 40 states. An input on the SET (S) and RESET (R) lines causes the counter to assume one of those states immediately. The exclusive-OR gate 9 may have its second input from a different one of stages 1-5 (Fig. 9, not shown) or may be replaced by a coincidence gate. Gate 10 may be a NOR gate. In another modification (Fig. 6, not shown) having ten stages but wired to count through 262 states there are additional AND-gates 14 between the first and second and between the sixth and seven states of the shift register these gates both having their other input connected to receive the signal a from gate 10. The shift register circuit employs FET’s in a complementary circuit requiring a two phase input; the circuit is dynamic.
