Abstract

1503122 Reciprocating pumps WARWICK PUMP & ENG CO Ltd 11 Jan 1977 [20 Jan 1976 1 Oct 1976] 02126/76 and 40782/76 Heading F1A A hydraulically-actuated diaphragm pump comprises a diaphragm 12 made of elastomeric material and having a thickness to diameter ratio of at least 1:5, e.g. 1:3, such that it is substantially self-restoring on the return stroke of its spring- loaded actuating piston 13, even if the pump inlet is blocked. A make-up valve 18 connects the actuating liquid column to a supply reservoir. The diaphragm may comprise a plurality of layers with means for detecting leakage through the outer layers, Fig. 3 (not shown). The pump output is controlled by adjusting the effective stroke of the actuating piston by means of an axially adjustable pin (27) Fig. 4 (not shown), which sealingly enters an axail bore in the piston during its discharge stroke. The pin may be adjusted automatically by the pump delivery pressure, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
