Abstract
1516422 Measuring moisture content electrically MOLINS MACHINE CO Inc 19 Feb 1976 [30 May 1975] 06507/76 Heading G1N The moisture content of glue lines 27 in a freshly made web 26 of corrugated paperboard is monitored by an R.F. absorbtion detector. Web 26 is drawn by endless belt 32 across transmitting elements 22, 24 connected to an R.F. Hartley oscillator 12″, Fig. 3 and spaced apart from one another and from the web by a distance equal to the width of a glue line 27. The R.F. field set up by the elements 22, 24 is amplitude modulated by the web 26 in accordance with the amount of energy absorbed thereby and the amplitude modulated signal A» is applied to envelope detector 16″ including non linear element 44″ and low pass filter 46″. If the web 26 is moving slowly or is static the low frequency signal B» from the detector 16″ may be applied to an ammeter to indicate the moisture content of the glue lines or used as a control signal. If the web 26 is moving quickly signal B» is applied via differentiator R4C3 to A.C. amplifier 58 and thence to peak to peak detector 54 including rectifier circuit 62 and R.C. circuit 64 the time constant of which is long with respect to signal B». Thus the signal at E is a D.C. signal the magnitude of which is proportional to the moisture variation between glue lines 27 and dry liner 30. After further amplification at 56 the signal is applied to an indicator or used as a control signal to heating elements 72, 74.
