Abstract

1517785 Polymer compositions E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 26 Sept 1975 [26 Sept 1974] 39592/75 Heading C3M Compositions having a ring and ball softening point of at least 230 F. comprise (A) 4 to 25 weight per cent of an ethylene/vinyl ester copolymer having a melt index of 2 to 150 and containing 72 to 82 weight per cent of ethylene and 18 to 28 weight per cent of a vinyl ester wherein the acid moiety contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms, (B) 0À7 to 5 weight per cent of polyethylene of molecular weight 1500 to 3000, density 0À94 to 0À97 g./c.c. and melting point 240 to 270 F., (C) 10 to 48 weight per cent of a polymer resin of softening point 40 to 140 F. derived by the alkylation of aromatic compounds with dicyclopentadiene, (D) 0 to 15 weight per cent of an aliphatic thermoplastic resin having a softening point of 155 to 240 F. and prepared from C5 to C7 diene and olefin monomers, (E) 0À5 to 8 weight per cent of paraffin wax or mixture of paraffin and microcrystalline waxes and (F) 25 to 75 weight per cent of filler. The preferred copolymers are ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers, and the compositions may be used for backing carpets.
