Abstract
1522613 Injection moulding machine BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 12 Aug 1975 [13 Aug 1974 21 Nov 1974] 35677/74 and 50570/74 Heading B5A In an injection moulding machine of the turntable type for injecting shoe soles having at least one layer on to shoe uppers, a wheel 312 engages the turntable 22 to carry moulds 24 on the turntable 22 from one working station to another and either a single notched lever or a pair of levers 318, 319 is provided at the injection moulding station 30 for co-operating with a projection 316 on the turntable beneath each mould 24 to locate the latter accurately with respect to the injection unit (26, Fig. 8, not shown). If a pair of levers 318, 319 are provided they are held radially outwardly of the path of the projections 316 during rotation of the turntable (note dotted lines in Fig. 7) by a cylinder 324, but are pivoted by the latter to engage the respective projection 316 and thus adjust the position of the relevant mould upon arrival of the latter at the injection station. The upstream lever 319 may be spring-loaded so that it enters the path of the projections before the lever 318. The wheel 312 may have a rim or be formed of polyurethane. The wheel may be pivoted about pivots 304 against return springs 308 into and out of contact with the turntable rim by air motors 306. The turntable may be braked either by shutting off the drive to the wheel when engaged with the turntable or by pivoting the wheel away from the turntable and applying separate brakes. The latter may comprise a pair of pivotally mounted shoes 723 which are biased towards the rim by a spring 742 and chain 744, but which are normally held away from the rim by a cylinder 724. The shoe soles may comprise two layers, one layer being injected at a station 402, and the other layer being injected at the station 30. One layer may be foamed. The injection unit 26 at station 30 is pivotable and forms the invention disclosed in Specification No. 35,679/74. The injection unit 404 at station 402 is radially movable with respect to the turntable. Each mould includes side moulds, a footform, a sole plate and a mould clamping unit and is disclosed and claimed in Specification Nos. A cylindrical pillar 292 of the turntable houses various control systems and includes adjustable cams 334 which are selectively engaged with switches 342 to provide a top or side closure sequence to the mould parts. Each adjustable cam comprises a pair of cam levers 458, 460 activated by a cylinder 450 via lever 454.
