Abstract

1525595 Adhesion promoting coatings RCA CORPORATION 24 Oct 1975 [25 Nov 1974] 43885/75 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions G2 and H1] A coating including particles e.g. of phosphor, is adhered to a glass surface by first applying to the surface a pre-coating comprising water-insoluble, organic, polymeric particles and having a weight of 0.08 to 0.8 mg/cm2. The precoat is an aqueous emulsion, and may include a thickening agent e.g. polyacrylate, in addition to the particles e.g. of a polystyrene (co)polymer. The phosphor layer has a photosensitizable binder e.g. polyvinyl alcohol, fish glue, gelatin and a photosensitizer e.g. sodium, potassium or ammonium dichromate. The coating is exposed to a screen pattern, and developed with water or aqueous solutions to form a luminescent screen for colour television.
