Abstract
1528585 Measuring resistance PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 Sept 1975 [28 Sept 1974] 39298/75 Heading G1U The value of a selected one of a number of resistors is determined by passing current from a current source through it via a transistor selector switch and connecting the voltage across the resistor to an output amplifier. The resistors R 1 -R n may be sensing magneto resistors in a reading head of an information store. The selector switch includes a number of transistors T 1 – T n which connect individual resistors to the common current source I, under the control of 1-from-n selector gates 11-31; 12-32 etc. A reference resistor Ro is provided near to the measuring resistors and fed with a reference current I 0 equal to I 1 . The difference between the voltage across the reference resistor R 0 and the selected measuring resistor supplied via amplifiers A 0 and A 1 – A n is detected by an output amplifier. Alternative embodiments Figs. 2-3 (not shown) illustrate arrangements suitable for fabrication as integrated circuits.
