Abstract

1528815 Laminates TEXSA SA 15 Dec 1975 51317/75 Heading B5N Multi layer waterproof strips having at least two continuous flexible plastics layers and therebetween, as adhesive medium, an evenly distributed layer of asphalt mixture, are produced by moving the plastics material layers 1A and 1B along respective paths to an asphalt mixture application point, applying between the plastics layers 1A and 1B at the application point a layer of asphalt mixtures 6, comprising 65-70% by weight asphalt, 25-30% by weight slate shale and 5-10% by weight latex or other elastomeric material in a suitable state at a temperature of 170 to 190 C., bonding the plastics material and asphalt layers together under pressure with the asphalt layer between the plastics material layers, and simultaneously cooling the plastics layers with a water film applied to the surfaces of the plastics layers opposite to the surfaces of the layers which contact the asphalt mixture, the water film being applied to each plastics layer at a distance of 20-40 cm before the application point, thereby avoiding damage to the plastics material of the layers due to the heat given off by the hot molten asphalt. Plastics layers 1A and 1B may partially wrap rollers 3A and 3B rotating in opposite directions thereby forming an adjustable nip into which the fluid asphalt mixture fed from source 7 is poured from box 5. Two or more pairs of rollers may act downstream to add further plastics web layers and asphalt mixture layers to the initial three layer strip 8. Rollers 3A and 3B operate partially submerged in water 9 to create around their periphery water films for cooling the plastics layers. The rollers may also be cooled by internal circulation of water introduced through tubular shafts 4A and 4B. The plastics layer which may be of high-pressure, low-density polyethylene may have a thickness of 0À01- 0À10 mm and the asphalt mixture layer may have a thickness of 1-4 mm. In an alternative arrangement the rollers may be replaced by endless belts.
