Description
(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO COMPOSITE SINK
UNITS
(71) I, DAVID LLOYD FRANCIS of 54 Wordsworth Street, Hove, East
Sussex, BN3 5BH, England, and a British
Subiect, do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: This patent of addition concerns improvements relating to Patent 1,266,295 of a composite sink unit, by way of incorporating two additional units:
(1) a portable drainer in the shape of a pan/tray upon which a cradle (optional) for draining crockery etc. can be placed. After washing up chores have been completed, the drainer pan/tray can then be positioned on top of the two separate perforated containers and can be used for locating a chopping block or bread board. The pan/tray drainer used in this way eliminates the necessity of the conventional combined sink-drainer with economy of material, and therefore providing additional work top space for other useful purposes.
(2) A sink cover which is generally rectangular in shape and with a finger grip hole for raising the cover from the main sink unit and with a locating flange at one end positioned at right angles to prevent the cover from sliding from its true position on the top of the portable pan/tray drainer.
The present invention provides a composite sink-unit, comprising a main sink which is generally rectangular in plan view and is provided with a pair of opposed walls each having a recess extending internally along the respective wall, at least one elongated perforated container provided with supporting means adapted to co-operate with the recesses in the opposed walls whereby the container is removably located in the main sink, each side wall of the main sink and of the each perforated container having a length which decreases from the top to the bottom of the wall, a portable pan/tray sink drainer arranged to be located in the unit above the perforated container or containers, and a sink cover located above the pan/tray drainer, and providing an additional level work top in line with the upper surface of the main sink.
The present inventon provides a completely enclosed self-contained all purpose composite sink unit which is generally rec
tangular in plan view, incorporating a portable pan/tray drainer, with a cover enclosing all other components in the main sink therein, and providing an economy of material (metal or other hard material), together with pr viding extra work-top space for the user in conjunction with a work-top already located in the dwelling. In short, a space saving completely self-contained composite sink unit is provided, being particularly suitable for use in small dwellings where kitchen space is of limited dimensions, be they bed-sitters; flats; bungalows; yachts or caravans.
The invention will now be further described by reference to the accompanying drawings.
rig. 1 is a plan view in which numeral 1 indicates the bottom of the pan/tray drainer which is generally rectangular in shape; reference numeral 2 indicates the inwardly inclined walls of the portable drainer.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the portable pan/tray drainer; reference numeral 2 indicates the inclined walls of the pan/tray drainer.
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the portable pan/tray drainer; reference 2 indicates the inclined walls of the pan/tray drainer.
Fig. 4 depicts a plan view of a sink cover indicated by numeral 3. Numeral 4 indicates a finger hole grip for raising the cover from the sink unit. Numeral 5 indicates a flange.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the sink cover indicated by the numeral 3. Numeral 5 indicates a right angle flange on the end of the sink cover.
Fig. 6 indicates an end elevation of the sink cover. Numeral 5 indicates the right flange of the sink cover.
Fig. 7 depicts a plan view of complete composite enclosed sink unit as indicated by the following numerals : -Numeral 3 indicates the sink cover. Numeral 4 indicates the finger hole grip of sink cover. Numeral 1 indicates the pan/tray drainer underneath the sink cover. Numeral 6 indicates the flange of the main sink unit. Numeral 7 indicates the drainhole in the sink unit. Numeral 8 indicates the over-flow outlet in the sink unit. Numeral 9 indicates the ridge of recessed walls.
Numeral 10 indicates separate perforated containers.
WHAT I CLAIM IS:- 1. A composite sink unit as claimed in Claim 1 of Patent 1,266,295 with two additional units constituted by a portable pan/tray sink drainer arranged to be located in the unit above the perforated container or containers and a sink cover located above the pan/tray drainer, and providing an additional level work-top in line with the upper surface of the main sink.
2. A sink unit as claimed in Claim 1 in which the cover is provided with a finger hole grip.
3. A sink unit as claimed in Claim 1 or
Claim 2 in which the cover is provided with a locating flange.
4. A sink unit substantially as herein described with respect to the accompanying drawings.
