Abstract
159,987. Willard, C. F. Dec. 9, 1919. Devulcanizing rubber.-India-rubber is devulcanized bv means of an emulsoid colloid solution in water of tar, pitch, resin, gum, or balsam, preferably wood tar. The ground rubber is boiled up with this solution, a sulphur solvent such as turpentine, and a detergent alkaline solution. The detergent solution may be employed along with the other solutions, or in a subsequent operation. Any known sulphur solvent may be used, or alcohol may be employed instead. The boiled rubbed is washed and dried, after which it can be subjected to any ordinary treatment. Fibre may be destroyed or separated in any known way.
