23,924. Stewart, W. Oct. 19. Cutters for levelling wood paving. – Consists in mounting rotary cutters behind an abrading-disk and a rotary brush to prepare and clean the surface. The machine comprises a wheeled chassis 1, propelled through worm gearing 5, 6, 7, 8 from the shaft 4 of a steamengine. The cutters 9, 10, mounted on horizontal spindles, either parallel to the spindles or spirally, are driven by belts 13, 14 from a transverse shaft 19 driven from the shaft 4 through a belt 22. The abrading-disk 23 with a roughened or serrated under surface is rotated through bevel-gearing from the shaft 19, and is adjustable vertically by a bell-crank 26 operated by a screw 27 and a hand-wheel 28. Sweeping-machines.-The rotary brush 29 is driven by sprocket, bevel, and worm gearing from the engine shaft 4, and is raised and lowered by a lever 32.
