Abstract
23,284. Giles, J. H., and Giles, D. M. Dec. 29, 1913, [Convention date]. Hank type; circulating fluids through materials.-The sticks of a hank-dyeing machine of the rotary type are held from backward movement by double detent dogs 30, Fig. 1, engaging the usual ratchet-wheels 25, the use of springs being avoided. The sticks of the outer series are mounted at one end in squared sockets 22, Fig. 3, in bearings 16 journaled in the spider 5. In these bearings, the ratchets 25 are formed integral therewith and act as retaining-flanges. The driving star-wheel 19 is pegged to an outer part of the bearing, and the peg 20 may be of soft metal, or it may be weakened, to shear under excessive strain. The star-wheels act as retaining-devices for the bearings 16. The tripdevice for actuating the star-wheels consists of a depending trip-arm 50, Figs. 1 and 6, which is pivoted to a part 57 and arranged to swing freely when the stick frame is moved backwards, but which, when the frame is moved forwards, is held in an operative position by an extension 54 of the trip-arm engaging a stop 56 on the part 57. The part 57 is held in position by a spring 65, Fig. 1, but yields under excessive strain, and the rebound is taken by springs 68. A bell 22 connected to the part 57 is rung when the part 57 is moved. The other ends of the sticks of the outer series are provided with elongated circular spindles to allow the sticks to be assembled in the frame, and, after insertion, the free ends of the sticks are held by a backing-rail 38, a part 38<1> of the rail being removable to allow the sticks to be inserted. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) include also the following features: a machine with two sets of sticks, the bearings for the star-wheels being journaled in the central spider and provided with squared sockets on opposite sides; an adjusting- mechanism for the inner series of sticks consisting of a rotatable socket ring 7, Fig. 1, actuated by rotating a shaft 84, through worm and spur gearing 86, 81, 76; a socket for the inner series of sticks consisting of a cup 88, Fig. 9 (Cancelled), with an open side which is closed by a spring-held part 90, the spring of which is held between loops 96 formed on and encircling supporting-hooks 95; an alternative means for holding the free ends of the outer series of sticks consisting of plate springs secured to the spider; a yarn stick provided with longitudinal corrugations; a metal stick provided with a non-corrosive covering and with bearings of non-corrosive metal at the ends. The Specification as open to inspection includes also a description of a liquor-circulating device consisting of a partition 103, Fig. 1, arranged with its upper end below the level of the liquid, and with its lower portion arranged with respect to an inclined baseboard 104, so as to form a contracted opening, opposite which a steam-pipe 102 is arranged. The outlet of the steam-pipe may consist of a slit provided with means for adjusting its width, which is arranged to be wider towards the ends. A hinged board 108 is provided to prevent back-circulation of the liquor. The dye for renewing the bath is supplied to the space between the partition 103 and the bottom of the vat, admixture being effected by paddles 130. The supply of steam to the pipe 102 is controlled by a thermostat arranged in the space above the liquor, and consisting of a spring bellows 147, Fig. 6 (Cancelled), which is in communication with a capsule 150 containing a suitable expansive fluid, and is connected to the steam valve 140 through a link 144. The parts are returned by a counterweight 154. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
