14,733. Long, E. Oct. 19. Aerating.-In the purification of sewage or waste water, a flowing mixture of activated sludge and sewage &c. is brought into intimate contact with air in a closed vessel and is then agitated until emulsified. In the apparatus shown, the mixture of activated sludge and sewage is sprayed from a nozzle A by compressed air from nozzles C, E, and draws in atmospheric air through ports B, and the mixture is then emulsified in a chamber G by an agitator H. The emulsion. is delivered by a pump I to an aerating-tank K, and may be circulated through the tank and emulsifying-apparatus until the des.ired degree of purification is effected.
