Abstract

192,260. Dehn, F. B., (Blaw-Knox Co.). Dec. 28, 1921. Moulding walls in situ. – For forming buttress walls of varying tapers and inclination, collapsable moulds are used which are supported so that they may be readily moved to any required position along the wall. The mould portions are suspended from a bridge-frame A supported by side frames b at the rear, and adjustable pivoted side frames c at the front, the bottoms of these side frames being provided with rollers to run on rails 7 provided at the foot of the wall on each side. The front mould section B is suspended from the bridge-frame by a screw support 22 and from the front frames c by supports 23 so that its inclination during casting may be regulated, and after casting it may be withdrawn laterally to clear the wall. Co-operating with this mould is a box mould formed of an inner face-mould D, G and two side moulds E. The face mould D is carried by frames C pivoted by supports 27 which in turn are pivoted to the bridge-frame A. The side moulds are formed in two parts, the lower sections F being separately erected and braced to co-operate with the lower front section G. The upper sections E are carried by adjustable supports 39. 40 from the side frames C so that the distance between them may be adjusted.. The frames C are first correctly positioned and then supported by a truss 43 and wedges 46, or by a strut 44, or both. The side moulds are then adjusted and secured by a beam 50 and wedges 51. Cover-plates 42, Fig. 5, are provided between the front and side moulds, and also between the top and side moulds to allow of this adjustment. The other mould parts co-operating with the inner moulds are then secured by cross-ties 49 and the buttress is cast. After the concrete is set, the ties 49 and mould parts are removed, then the side moulds F so that the upper side moulds E may then be collapsed, and the whole frame C swung about its pivot suspension 27 to the dotted position shown in Fig. 1. The mould B is also swung upwards, and the traveller may then be moved to a new position along the wall. To allow of the use of the traveller with many mould sections which are left in position until the concrete has set, and are then moved to new positions, the front mould section B is adapted to be supported from the inner mould section D by cross-ties 60, Fig. 1.
