Abstract

The invention provides azo dyes of the general formula where X is hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, nitro, methyl, ethyl, methoxy, ethoxy, trifluoromethyl, a sulfonic acid ester group or unsubstituted or substituted sulfamyl, Y is hydrogen, chlorine or bromine, Z is hydrogen, acetyl, cyano or unsubstituted or substituted carbamyl, R is hydrogen, ether-oxygen- containing C1-C10-alkyl (which may or may not be substituted by cyclohexyl or aryl), phenyl-C1-C4-alkyl, optionally substituted arylvinyl or a radical of the formula (CH2)mCOOR<4>, m being a number from 0 to 5 and R<4> being hydrogen, unsubstituted or substituted C1-C8-alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, R<2> is hydrogen, C1-C3-alkyl, hydroxyl or amino, and R<3> is hydrogen or C1-C8-alkyl (which may or may not be substituted by C1-C4-alkoxy or by phenyl). The dyes have high tinctorial strength, are very suitable for dyeing synthetic fibers, especially polyesters, and give predominantly yellow dyeings having excellent fastness characteristics.
