SPECIFICATION
Portable, re-chargeable apparatus for supplying a voltage to a consuming device or load
5
The invention relates to portable, re-chargeable apparatus for delivering a voltage to a consuming device or load.
The desire frequently exists of using, in the garden 10 or when pursuing a hobby, apparatus which is operated with the conventional mains voltage of 220 volts. Often, however the operation of appropriate apparatus is not possible because a mains voltage supply is not available at ail or a suitably long supply 15 cable is lacking.
The task of the invention is to provide an apparatus which can enable these disadvantages to be obviated.
According to the invention, there is provided a 20 portable, re-chargeable apparatus for supplying a voltage to a consuming device or load, characterised in that the said apparatus has a housing which is provided with a handle and has a re-chargeable battery, an inverter, a transformer, a standard plug soc-25 ket for the delivery of 220 volts alternating current, and switch means for the switching of the operation or of a charging process.
Such an apparatus, when a battery having an appropriate ampere-hour capacity is used, is in a 30 position to supply current at any desired location, at least for a limited time.
The transformer, which serves for transforming the alternating voltage of the inverterto 220 volts, may have a second winding which serves, together 35 with a rectifier, for the re-charging of the battery.
This feature makes possible a saving in weight, which is of particular importance in the case of a portable apparatus.
Within the scope of the invention it is advantage-40 ous to use a 12-volt car battery.
Also according to the invention, there is provided a portable, re-chargeable apparatus for supplying a voltage to a consuming device or load, characterised in that the said apparatus has a housing containing a 45 re-chargeable battery, an inverter, a transformer, a standard plug socket for the delivery of alternating current at a voltage of the magnitude of a mains voltage, and control switch means.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of 50 example, an embodiment constructed in accordance with the invention.
Referring to the drawing, a 12-volt car battery 3 is provided in a plastics housing 1 having a carrying handle 2. Designated by 4 is an inverter which serves 55 for chopping the direct voltage and which delivers r an alternating voltage of 220 volts at 50 Hz via a transformer 5 to a subsequent standard plug socket 6. Designated by 7 is a switch panel having a switch la for switching the apparatus on and off, a switch 60 lb for switching on charging of the battery and a switch 7c for switching the battery on and off at the plug socket. Designated by 8 is a rectifier which, in collaboration with a second winding arranged in the transformer 5, allows the re-charging of the battery 65 via connection of the apparatus to the mains current supply.
Claims (5)
1. Aportable, re-chargeable apparatus for supplying a voltage to a consuming device or load,
70 characterised in that the said apparatus has a housing which is provided with a handle and has a rechargeable battery, an inverter, a transformer, a standard plug socket for the delivery of 220 volts alternating current, and switch means for the switch-
75 ing of the operation or of a charging process.
2. A portable, re-chargeable apparatus for supplying a voltage to a consuming device or load, characterised in that the said apparatus has a housing containing a re-chargeable battery, an inverter, a
80 transformer, a standard plug socket forthe delivery of alternating current at a voltage of the magnitude of a mains voltage, and control switch means.
3. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the transformer, which serves for transform-
85 ing the alternating voltage of the inverterto 220 volts, has a second winding which serves, together with a rectifier, forthe re-charging of the battery.
4. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that a 12-volt car battery is used as the battery.
90
5. Aportable, re-chargeable apparatus for delivering a voltage to a consuming device or load, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
